A tall, charismatic point guard in Orlando came closest to challenging Michael Jordan’s sneaker throne in the 90s. Anfernee “Penny” Hardaway’s kicks cracked necks, helped people see beyond the Jumpman, and introduced Foamposite — Nike’s solid but light material — to the streets and the hardwood. His sneaker legacy is so impressive that in 2012, Nike Basketball introduced the Penny 5, making him the first player since Jordan to have his line continued after his playing career.
